Planning & Building
Do you need council approval for building a SelectHaus cabin?
Each state in Australia has its own legislation when it comes to building a backyard cabin. In addition, local council conditions may apply.
Foundations for your SelectHaus cabin
To build your cabin, you must have a level and stable base available to build on. This requires foundations of some sort to be built. We also offers sub-frames and foundation kits to go with your cabin.
Insulating your SelectHaus cabin
The timber walls of your SelectHaus cabin, particularly those of 44mm or thicker offer a wonderful natural thermal insulation.
How long will a Select Haus cabin build take?
This varies depending on many factors. For example - how competent and/or fast are your builders and how difficult is your site?
A competent builder will take 1-2 days to build a smaller 10m2 cabin. More time is needed for building a sub-frame and foundations if needed, as well as painting.
A larger model up to 20m2 can take up to 10 days to build. A second pair of hands can reduce this substantially, as will availability of some equipment like a nail gun and compressor. You will need to plan time in addition for painting.

We decided to get a Sigurdson 13,1. Initially as a yoga and exercise room, for myself and the girls. However, our guests love it! The 44mm solid timber walls and double glazing give excellent insulation in our sometimes-alpine climate. The whole process from ordering to completion was easier than we thought, and a quick price check showed that it cost way less than a similar competitor model with a glossy website. This is not anything like a shed!
